One of the most vital ways we sustain ourselves is by building communities of resistance, places where we know we are not alone.”

-Bell Hooks

Our purpose is to provide pathways to heal and transform generational and historical trauma for marginalized communities through weaving the healing arts. We believe in the inherent potential of every individual to heal, grow, and reintegrate positively into their communities. We envision a world where every person has the opportunity to lead a life filled with hopefulness, empowerment, joy, and connection.
— Mission & Vision

With Sovereignty in Sobriety, we aim to heal the root cause of addiction and trauma through community and connection.

Trauma Release Exercises (TRE) are the core of the support group holistic services offered and teach people about not just regulating their own nervous system but healing it in an accessible way.  TRE is a type of somatic practice, created by Dr. David Bercelli which is described as a body or body awareness practice to bring healing. “TRE® is an innovative series of exercises that assist the body in releasing deep muscular patterns of stress, tension, and trauma. Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises (or TRE®) is based on the fundamental idea, backed by research, that stress, tension and trauma is both psychological and physical.”  It is in engaging with this practice that clarity, connection, and an overall sense of peace is embodied.  Through the release of the muscular patterns of trauma, TRE elicits deep muscular relaxation and induces the body to activate the parasympathetic nervous system (the relaxation response).

Each healing circle is 90 minutes long and centers around Trauma/Stress Release Exercises as the core activity. As of now, Sovereignty in Sobriety is held at D3 Arts the second Wednesday of every month, all ages welcome. There is also a youth program that moves through the same outline but created in a way to meet youths where they are at so they may receive this medicine in a supportive way.
